ALTOONA, PA - Brian Friday singled home Ray Chang in the bottom of the 10th to win a wild contest 9-8 over the Portland Sea Dogs (AA-Boston Red Sox) in the finale of a three game series Thursday night at Blair County Ballpark.
Chang blasted his first career grand slam in the third inning to erase a 5-1 deficit. Chang finished the night 3-for-6 with a home run and a career-high four RBIs. The teams would go back and forth from there with the Curve tying the game in the ninth on a throwing error at third base to score C Miguel Perez and send the game into extra frames.
Pirates No. 1 prospect Pedro Alvarez had another outstanding night going 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, two runs scored and drew two walks. Alvarez is hitting an unbelievable .611 over his last four games (11x18) including two three hit games and his first career four hit game raising his season batting average to .338 which leads all active Curve players.
