Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
ALTOONA, PA - The Altoona Curve hammered out 17 hits, blasting the Binghamton Mets, 13-4, on Saturday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Eric Wood launched a three-run homer in the second and the Curve never looked back in handing the B-Mets their sixth loss in the last seven games. Gavin Cecchini drove in two runs in a three-hit game while Michael Conforto walked three times in his Double-A debut in the losing effort.
The Curve offered Robert Gsellman a rough welcome to Double-A in his B-Mets debut. Following a leadoff double and a walk in the second inning, Wood deposited a three-run homer to left field, giving Altoona a 3-0 lead. In the third, Jose Osuna singled home Josh Bell and stole home later in the frame when Stetson Allie drew a throw from Xorge Carrillo while swiping second base.
Jason Creasy held the B-Mets in check, stranding four in his first three scoreless innings. Aderlin Rodriguez helped get the B-Mets on the board in the fourth, leading off the inning with a double to right. A wild pitch and a groundout by Carrillo brought him home with Binghamton's first run.
Altoona chased Gsellman from the game by putting the first two aboard in the fifth. Reliever Matt Koch limited the damage to one run, allowing one inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly by Osuna. Gift Ngoepe extended the lead to seven with a two-run double off Dario Alvarez in the sixth.
The Curve put the game out of reach with an offensive onslaught against Major League rehabber Bobby Parnell in the seventh. Pitching for the second time in as many nights, Parnell allowed seven straight to reach before exiting the game. Altoona sent 11 batters to the plate in the frame, scoring five runs on five hits and three walks, including two with the bases loaded.
Binghamton waited until they trailed by a dozen to awaken on offense. In the eighth, Eudy Pina tripled home Yeixon Ruiz and Cecchini followed with an RBI single. Cecchini capped his night with another run-producing single in the ninth.
Creasy (6-0) closed his tenth start with two scoreless innings en route to his team-leading sixth win of the season. The righty allowed one run on four hits while striking out three. Gsellman (0-1) was touched for six runs on eight hits over four innings in the defeat. The righty went 2-for-2 with two singles in his first career plate appearances.
The B-Mets (25-24) conclude their visit to Altoona on Sunday night at 6:00 PM. RHP Seth Lugo takes the ball for Binghamton against LHP Zack Dodson. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 5:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
