Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA, PA - A six run eighth inning for Akron erased a 3-1 lead and a great outing by Curve starter Yoslan Herrera as the Aeros won the series finale 7-4 at Blair County Ballpark.

Herrera threw six strong innings allowing one run on four hits and four strikeouts. With Herrera's outing the Curve starting rotation has now allowed only one run in its last 27.0 innings pitched (0.33 ERA). Herrera's only mistake came in the second inning on a solo home run by Beau Mills to give Akron an early 1-0 lead.

The Curve tied the game in the fourth on a Hector Gimenez single. Jason Delaney led the sixth inning off with a double and then the Curve played great fundamental small ball manufacturing two runs on three consecutive sacrifice hits aided by a throwing error to take a 3-1 lead.

The Aeros then exploded in the eighth after the bases were loaded on two walks and a single, the first run was walked home. Then John Drennan crushed a triple that cleared the bases and put the Aeros ahead 5-3 and the next batter Jerad Head jacked a two run homer to finish the scoring.

Gimenez hit his fifth home run in the ninth to tie himself for the team lead, and finish the night 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

The Curve (19-38) will hit the road Tuesday after a day off for a three game series at New Britain. Tuesday's probable starters are RHP Mike Crotta (3-2, 5.17) for the Curve and RHP Jeff Manship (4-4, 4.94) for New Britain. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 6:20 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
