Altoona Curve News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Altoona Curve reliever Ramon Aguero allowed three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning which proved to be enough to help the Binghamton Mets (AA - New York Mets) edge by Altoona 4-3 on Sunday night at NYSEG Stadium.

With the score tied 1-1 in the seventh, Aguero gave up an RBI single to his mound opponent, at the time, relief pitcher Jose De La Torre with the infield drawn in. Ruben Tejeda, who finished the night 2-for-4 then followed up by driving in a pair to give Binghamton the offense needed to grab a 4-1 lead and eventually win their second game of a four-game set.

Altoona (61-80) would mount a comeback attempt in the top of the eighth inning. Milver Reyes singled home Jason Delaney to cut the deficit in half, when Shelby Ford singled home Ray Chang shortly thereafter to bring the Curve within a run, 4-3.

The Curve had the tying run in scoring position in the ninth inning but Jonel Pacheco hit into a game-ending double play.

In his final outing of the season, starter Derek Hankins tossed 5.0 solid innings allowing just one run on four hits and striking out a season-high seven batters.

The Altoona Curve will look to draw even in the series in the final game of the 2009 season on Monday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. RHP Mike Crotta (6-8, 5.00) will make his 27th start of the season which will tie a franchise record. Crotta will be the first player to accomplish the feat in six seasons. Crotta will join Brian O'Connor (1999), John Grabow (2002), Sean Burnett and Landon Jacobson (2003) to start 27 games in a season. Binghamton (54-85) will counter with LHP Eric Neisen (3-6, 5.24).
