\'Dogs dream of beating the \'Cats denied, lose 8-3

(Portland, ME) - New Hampshire's DH Mosies Sierra blasted a game-winning grand slam in the eighth inning as the Fisher Cats (64-77) topped the Portland Sea Dogs (66-74), 8-3 on Sunday afternoon in the 13th annual Field of Dreams Day at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs dropped their first game of the series and head into Monday's season finale with a 3-3 record on the homestand.

Portland led 3-2 after seven innings but the Fisher Cats sent seven men to the plate in the eighth inning to grab the lead for good. 3B Scott Campbell and 2B Brad Emaus opened the inning with singles off losing pitcher LHP Andrew Dobies (2-3). With one out, RF Nick Gorneault hit into fielder's choice but a walk to CF Darrin Mastroianni loaded the bases. Sierra cracked his grand slam off the netting of the Dunkin Donuts Message Center in left-center field.

LHP Tim Collins (2-3) yielded the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning but earned the win for the visitors. Portland loaded the bases on a single by C Luis Exposito and walks to SS Yamaico Navarro and RF Jason Place. 2B Iggy Suarez tied the game with a fielder's choice and LF Daniel Nava laced an RBI single.

RHP Ryne Lawson took a no-decision in his final start of the season for Portland. The righty hurled seven strong innings on five hits, two runs, one walks and a season-high six strikeouts. New Hampshire scored both runs off Lawson in the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. With one out, 3B Scott Campbell was hit-by-a-pitch and 1B Scott Cooper blasted a 2-run homer into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion.

Portland received a big-fly from SS Yamaico Navarro in the fourth inning, a solo-blast over the Maine Monster in left field. The homer was surrendered by starter RHP Andrew Leibel, who lasted five innings on five hits and one run. The righty walked one and fanned seven in his second Double-A start.

RHP Bryce Cox worked the ninth inning but was touched for two hits and two runs over 1 IP. Campbell and Cooper nailed run-scoring singles for New Hampshire's 8-3 lead. RHP Danny Farquhar notched his 15th save of the season with two scoreless innings on one hits and two walks.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats close out the 2009 regular season on Monday afternoon at Hadlock Field beginning at 1:00 PM. RHP Blake Maxwell (6-8, 5.28) makes his final start of the season against RHP Kenny Rodriguez (4-4, 3.64).
