New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Portland, ME- Moises Sierra hit his first home run for New Hampshire, an eighth inning grand slam, as the Fisher Cats rallied for an 8-3 win before 7,192 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

In the decisive eighth, Scott Campbell (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI) led off with a single. Brad Emaus (2-for-5, R) then followed with a single and the runners moved up on a grounder by David Cooper (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI). Nick Gorneaut grounded to third, but Campbell was gunned down at the plate for the second out. After Darin Mastroianni walked, Sierra cleared the bases with his grand slam off Andrew Dobies (2-3) to put New Hampshire up 6-3.

Tim Collins (2-3) allowed two runs in two innings in relief, but earned the win. Danny Farquhar pitched two innings of scoreless ball to earn his 15th save.

Cooper gave the Fisher Cats an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the third inning off Portland starter Ryne Lawson. His tenth of the season also plated Campbell, who had been hit-by-a-pitch.

Portland (66-74) got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning on a solo home run by Yamaico Navarro (2-for-2, HR, RBI, 2 BB), his second, off New Hampshire starter Andrew Liebel.

Liebel worked the first five innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two and striking out seven in his second start for the Fisher Cats.

The Sea Dogs took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning against Collins. Iggy Suarez grounded into a fielders choice with the bases loaded allowing Luis Exposito, who had singled, to score from third to tie the game. When the Fisher Cats couldn't make a play on a shallow fly down the right field line by Daniel Nava, Navarro scored to make it 3-2.

Already leading 6-3, the Fisher Cats added two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Todd Donovan walked, stole second base (his 37th steal of the season) and scored on a single by Campbell. Campbell moved up on a grounder by Brad Emaus and scored on a single by Cooper off Portland reliever Bryce Cox.

The Fisher Cats conclude the 2009 season at Hadlock Field tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
