Altoona Curve News Release
ERIE, Pa - In a game that featured one tie and three lead changes, the Altoona Curve were able to come away with a 9-6 victory over the Erie SeaWolves (AA - Detroit Tigers) on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park to extend their season-high winning streak to six games.
The Altoona Curve has rattled off six wins for the first time since they grabbed six-straight from May 30 through June 5 of the 2007 season.
Altoona grabbed a 4-0 lead early before the âWolves plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to knot the score. Erie (67-63) was able to chase Curve starter Mike Crotta from the game because Crotta tossed a total of 31 pitches in the frame (59 total on the night) and lasted just 3.2 innings.
Altoona would grab a 5-4 lead on a bases loaded walk to Jeff Corsaletti in the top of the fifth inning, but Erie would immediately counter in their half of the inning with back-to-back home runs from Deik Scram and Brennan Boesch to take a 6-5 lead.
The Curve (59-73), however, would take the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning. After a another bases loaded walk to Jason Delaney which plated Gorkys Hernandez to tie the score, Shelby Ford's RBI single brought home Jonel Pacheco to give the Curve a 7-6 edge.
Brian Friday would knock in a pair of runs with a single in the eighth inning to provide Altoona with much-needed insurance to put Altoona up 9-6.
The Altoona Curve and the Erie SeaWolves will lock horns in the second game of a four-gamer on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Kyle Bloom (5-8, 4.07) will take the rubber for Altoona while Erie will counter with LHP Jon Kibler (6-8, 4.00). Pre-game radio coverage on flagship station ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates will begin at 6:50 p.m.
