Altoona Curve News Release
CURVE, Pa. - Reading's Drew Naylor (12-10) threw his second nine-inning, complete-game shutout this season as he baffled the Curve in Reading's, 3-0, win over Altoona on Labor Day at Blair County Ballpark. Naylor set down the last 16 Curve batters he faced in the game with the last one to reach being Miles Durham in the fourth inning.
Naylor and Curve starter Tony Watson (6-4) dueled through the first five innings as neither starter allowed a run until the sixth. Watson retired the first two men he faced in the sixth inning before Tagg Bozied, the league's leading hitter, homered to put Reading up,1 -0. Catcher Kevin Nelson followed Bozied's blast with a home run of his own and after back-to-back home runs, the R-Phils led, 2-0.
Altoona's best scoring opportunity came in the third inning when they had two men on with two away and Jim Negrych at the plate. Negrych, who had already singled to extend his season-best hit streak to 10 games back in the first, flew out on a deep fly ball to center to end the inning.
Craig Hansen saw his first action in a Curve uniform on Monday, throwing two innings of scoreless relief while walking a pair. RHP Tom Boleska pitched the ninth and allowed one run on two hits.
First baseman Matt Hague went 0-for-4 in the game and saw his consecutive games on base streak come to an end at 20. Altoona finishes the regular season with a mark of 82-60, which is the second best mark in franchise history.
After an off day on Tuesday, Altoona (82-60) will match up with the Harrisburg Senators (AA - Washington Nationals) at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Divisional Round of the 2010 E.L. Playoffs at Blair County Ballpark. Southpaw Rudy Owens (12-6, 2.46), the league leader in ERA, will make the game one start for Altoona while LHP Tom Milone (12-5, 2.85), who has the second best ERA in the league, opposes for Harrisburg.
The first 1,000 fans through the gates on Wednesday night will receive a 2010 Altoona Curve Commemorative Photo courtesy of McDonald's, Peoples Natural Gas, Sheetz, Pepsi and Atlantic Broadband.
