Iowa Cubs News Release
A night after losing 4-0 to the Oklahoma City RedHawks (60-70), the Iowa Cubs (60-70) reversed their fortunes and picked up the win Monday night with an identical 4-0 score. Austin Bibens-Dirxk gave the Cubs a quality start in his first start at Principal Park since June 22. Brett Jackson singled to lead off the home half of the first inning and moved to third base on a Marwin Gonzalez groundout. The next batter, Scott Moore, put the Cubs on the board with an RBI-single over the drawn in RedHawks' infield. That proved to be all the offensive support Bibens-Dirkx needed from his teammates as he cruised through the Oklahoma City lineup.
Staked to a 1-0 lead, Bibens-Dirkx (4-5) completed seven innings and recorded his sixth quality start of the season for Iowa. It was also his longest outing of the year. He allowed only four hits, walked one, and struck out four batters. Lucas Harrell (4-2) gave the RedHawks a quality start as well. He pitched seven innings, and allowed one run on four hits. He walked two and struck out four.
In the eighth inning, Lou Montanez tripled to start the frame. He came in to score on a Jackson RBI-single. Gonzalez then reached on an error. With two outs, Jackson and Gonzalez moved into scoring position on a double-steal of second and third. Both runners came around to score when Welington Castillo chopped a ball to shortstop but the throw to first base was high. Both RedHawks' miscues in the inning were committed by Anderson Hernandez.
Hernandez did finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate, extending his hitting-streak to 20 games.
Blake Parker pitched a perfect eighth inning with two strikeouts out of the Iowa bullpen. In the ninth, John Gaub walked three to load the bases with RedHawks before recording the final out of the game.
The Cubs and RedHawks will play one more game at Principal Park tomorrow afternoon before this series shifts to Oklahoma City for five games. RH Alberto Cabrera (2-4, 6.69) is slated to take the mound for Iowa opposite LH Andy Van Hekken (7-5, 3.08) for the RedHawks. First pitch is set for 12:05 p.m.
