Iowa Cubs News Release
Greg Reinhard threw four shutout innings in his first start of the season and Brad Snyder hit a three-run homer as the Iowa Cubs beat the Memphis Redbirds 6-2 on Monday afternoon at Principal Park. With the win, the Cubs took three out of four from first-place Memphis and moved within a half game of the division lead.
Reinhard faced the minimum through the first four frames, with a walk to leadoff man Jon Jay in the fourth as the only blemish. After throwing 41 pitches, Reinhard left the game to an Iowa bullpen that proved up to the task. Vince Perkins (1-0) threw three innings without allowing an earned run to earn his first triple-A win.
Snyder doubled and scored to lead off the second inning and hit a towering three-run home run to the right field bleachers off Memphis starter P.J. Walters (1-1) to give the I-Cubs a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Snyder's homer was his eighth of the season.
Jake Fox capped the scoring in the seventh inning when his two-run triple off the left field wall drove in Andres Blanco and Sam Fuld. With two runs driven in, Fox added to his league-leading total (34) and recorded his 12th multi-RBI game of the young 2009 season.
After finishing their eight-game homestand with a 4-4 record Monday, the Cubs hit the road to face two teams who boast the first- and second-best winning percentage in the PCL. The Cubs will play four games at Colorado Springs (18-11) and four more at Salt Lake (19-11) before returning to Principal Park on May 21.
Notes: Snyder has now hit safely in 20 of his past 21 games ... Fuld stole two bases for the second consecutive game, bringing his season total to a team-leading six ... Fox's fifth inning fielding error was his first of the season and led to an unearned run ... Reinhard has allowed just one run in 22.1 innings of work this season. He is scheduled to start again on Saturday at Salt Lake.
