Cubs and Whitecaps Washed Away Saturday Night

June 15, 2019 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Cubs News Release

Comstock Park, MI: With pouring rain coming down in Comstock Park, Michigan, the South Bend Cubs and West Michigan Whitecaps could not make it through five innings for an official final in game two of a three game series at Fifth Third Ballpark. With the Cubs up 5-0 in the 4th inning, the game went into a delay. However, due to field conditions, the game could not be completed.

Both the Whitecaps and Cubs were already eliminated from first half playoff contention coming into the game. With the game being suspended, it will not be completed and will be a wash.

Even with the stats not counting, South Bend's offense came alive for the second straight night and scored five runs. Tyler Durna and Delvin Zinn combined for three RBI on the night. Durna now has five RBI in the series. All-Star right-hander Cam Sanders tossed three scoreless innings.

The Cubs and Whitecaps will play the final game of the first half tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 PM. Peyton Remy is the expected starter for South Bend.
