C's Make It Two Straight Over Dust Devils

(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - A towering home run from 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones, his 9th of the summer, helped the Canadians to a convincing 4-1 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils on Friday afternoon in front of just over 4,000 sun soaked fans.

The Canadians grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the 1st inning when 2B Michael Fabiaschi doubled and came around the score on a hard hit single off the bat of RF Douglas Landaeta giving the C's a 1-0 lead.

Vancouver tacked on a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning when CF Jeff Bercume singled and came around to score when RF Douglas Landaeta reached on an error extending the Canadians to 2-0.

More Canadians offense came in the bottom of the 6th inning when 1B A.J. Kirby-Jones hit his 9th home run of the summer over the right field fence off of LHP Edwar Cabrera giving Vancouver a 3-0 lead.

Tri-City finally got on the board in the top of the 7th inning when Canadians LHP Ryan Quigley came into the game and gave up a single to 1B Mark Tracy, who advanced to second on a single from 3B Jayson Langfels and scored on a double from CF Nathan Hines cutting the Canadians lead to 3-1.

Vancouver would not be denied on Friday as in the bottom of the 8th inning, the C's would grab one more run as SS Wade Kirkland would hit into a fielder's choice and come around to count on a double off the bat of LF Josh Whitaker helping the C's to a 4-1 lead.

Canadians starter RHP Seth Frankoff was strong going five innings of scoreless baseball before turning things over to the bullpen where LHP Ryan Quigley, RHP Dan Tenholder and RHP A.J. Griffin would help Vancouver improve to 6-4 on the second half, ensuring at least a share of top spot in the Northwest League's West Division heading into the weekend.

NOTES: Kirby-Jones leads the NWL with nine home runs... The Canadians Class-A Short-Season record for home runs is 12 (Javier Herrera - 2004)... RHP A.J. Griffin collected his ninth save of the season and leads the NWL in that category... Vancouver improves to 13-8 (.619) at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium through 21 games.
