Lake Erie Crushers News Release

The Lake Erie Crushers gave the Washington Wild Things a taste of their own medicine on Sunday night at Consol Energy Park as they scored three times in the top of the ninth inning to win by a final of 7-5. The Crushers win comes one night after a heartbreaking loss in which Lake Erie allowed three Washington runs in the ninth inning.

Right fielder Wayne Bond led off the ninth with a walk, catcher Brad Griffiths followed with a single and then left fielder Tim Binkoski doubled home Bond to tie the game at five. The Crushers would then take advantage of an error by left fielder Joe Spiers on a fly ball hit by Andrew Davis to plate the go ahead run. Centerfielder Luke Hetherington capped off the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

"I'm really proud of the guys and the way they came back from yesterday's adversity," said Crushers manager John Massarelli. "We found a way to come back from two runs down two separate times."

Bond and second baseman Andrew Saylor both hit RBI singles for the Crushers in the victory.

Reliever Nick Tisone worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win for Lake Erie. Jon Lewis took the loss for the Wild Things.

The Crushers will get Monday off for Memorial Day and then continue their road trip as they'll head to Windy City to take on the Thunderbolts starting on Tuesday at 11:05 CST.
