Rascals Rout Grizzlies 13-4 To Complete Four Game Sweep

SAUGET, IL - Different night, same story for the Rascals as River City sweeps the Gateway Grizzlies with a 13-4 victory at GCS Ballpark. River City never trailed in the four game series.

The Rascals (4-0) started fast again with solo runs in the first and second innings. Scott Robinson singled home a run in the first and Cameron Howell picked up his first RBI in the second.

Scott Houin made it 5-0 River City in the fourth as the leadoff hitter connected on a three run blast off starter, Nathan Melek. It was the first home run for Houin this season.

Gateway (0-4) didn't have an answer for the Rascals' offense in the fifth as River City sent 13 hitters to the plate, scoring eight more runs. Robinson, Chris Raniere, Andy Reilly, Jorge Gutierrez, Chris Colton, and JoJo Batten all drove in runs during the inning for a 13-2 advantage.

The Grizzlies added two runs in the ninth for the 13-4 final. Stephen Holdren and Jareck West each had RBI singles in the inning.

Daniel Howard went the first four innings for River City, allowing one run on three hits while walking four and striking out five.

Ryan Ashner (1-0) picked up the win for the Rascals, working the following two frames after Howard. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits in two innings.

Nathan Melek (0-1) gave up 15 hits in his five innings of work, allowing seven runs in the process.

Houin, Batten, Robinson, Raniere and Reilly each had three hits for River City, who finished the four game series with an astonishing 38 runs on 66 hits.
