July 22, 2022 - Frontier League (FL)
Lake Erie Crushers News Release
Just before the All-Star break, Lake Erie (27-31) came off their second consecutive series win. For the Ottawa Titans (36-23), they've been one of the hottest teams in the Frontier League coming into Friday's matchup.
Ottawa led throughout the game with a big three run fifth inning. Used a complete performance out of Evan Grills to defeat the Crushers, 4-1.
Both teams held to zero runs till the fifth inning where the Titans scored a majority of their total to take the lead. Clay Fisher lined a baseball to center field for an RBI single, A.J. Wright provided the power with a two run home run to left field.
Gunnar Kines was the Lake Erie starter who pitched effectively throughout his outing, only running into trouble in his final inning (fifth inning). Kines allowed all three hits in the fifth inning, all three runs in the fifth as well. He walked two and struck out four. On the other side it was a dazzling performance from Evan Grills. Grills threw a complete game, he gave up five hits, one run, walked one, and struck out 10.
Lake Erie's lone run came in the sixth inning. Connor Owings cracked a solo home run to left field. Ottawa answered with a run of their own in the eighth inning. Another home run from the Titans side, this time a solo home run from Jacob Sanford to increase the lead to three.
Grills entered the ninth needing three outs for the complete game and win. He threw a 1-2-3 scoreless ninth inning to secure a 4-1 win.
Both teams will face off in the second game of the series on Saturday, June 23. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET.
