O'FALLON, MO - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, bounced back with a 3-2 win over River City (9-4) on Saturday night. Led by Sean Renzi (2-1) and a home run from Dalton Wheat, Lake Erie (9-5) evened the series with the first place Rascals.

The Crushers took an early lead in the second inning courtesy of Wheat. After homering in the ninth inning on Friday night, the Crushers outfielder went deep to right-center against River City starter Scott Grist (2-1).

Lake Erie manufactured a run in the fourth after an infield single from Aaron Hill. Wheat followed with a single, allowing Hill to advance to third. Bryan DeLaRosa knocked in Hill with a chopper to shortstop, making it 2-0.

On the mound Renzi was dealing. The right-hander cruised through the first three innings. In the fourth he allowed a leadoff double to Mike Jurgella, who later advanced to third on a balk. Zach Lavy grounded out to second but Jurgella scored, cutting the deficit in half.

Renzi went six innings, while allowing just the one run on five hits. He struck out six and didn't issue a walk. He has struck out 26 over his first three starts.

Lake Erie added an insurance run in the seventh after a single by Dane Hutcheon and an RBI single by Kevin Lachance. Hutcheon went 2-4 on the night, raising his average to .340 on the year.

River City made things tight in the eighth inning. Kevin Suarez led off with a single against Branden Nunn. The next batter, Connor Oliver, drove a ball off the wall in right. Oliver tried to extend his hit into a double but Wheat's throw got there in time to get the out. Suarez later scored on a sacrifice fly but that was all and Lake Erie maintained a 3-2 lead.

Justin Sinabaldi came on for the save in the ninth and he retired the Rascals in order. Sinabaldi struck out two and earned his third save of the year.

Lake Erie will send Nick Deeg (1-0) to the hill in the rubber match tomorrow. River City will start left-hander Lucas Laster (1-0). Game time is set for 6:05 CDT. The Crushers are 3-2 on their six-game road trip.
