Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy struggled against Miners' pitcher Williams Perez early on. They eventually found their offensive stride in the 7th and snagged the lead, but were unable to hold on. The Slammers dropped game 1 of the series 5-4.
The Scoring began in the Top of the 2nd when Miners' first baseman Joe Dudek hit a solo homerun over the right field wall to put the Miners up 1-0. Following the inning, the score remained unchanged for 3 innings.
In the top half of the 5th, Center Fielder Chris Scura hit a sacrifice fly to score the awaiting runner from 3rd base. Later in the inning, second baseman Marc DiLeo singled into right field to score a runner from 2nd, giving the Miners a 3-0 lead.
The Slammers were able to get the bats going in the bottom half of the 7th. Dom Iero, the Slammers' third baseman, hit a 2 run home run over right field to narrow the gap to only a single run. Later, Catcher Cody Clark knocked a solo home run into left field, knotting the game at 3 runs apiece.
After finding himself on 1st base, London Lindley was given the go ahead to steal 2nd base. After the throw away by opposing catcher Ben Moore, Lindley rounded 3rd and scored, giving the Slammers the lead 4-3.
