AVON, Ohio - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy Health, fell into an early 5-0 hole on Friday night at Sprenger Stadium, and dropped their series opener to the Schaumburg Boomers, 8-5.

The loss for the Crushers (15-10) was their fourth in their last five games at home, while the victory for the Boomers (11-13) was their fourth in their last five games.

The Boomers got on the board first, scoring a trio of runs in the top of the third. Nick Oddo drove in the game's first run with a RBI double to left center field. Jack Parenty drove in the next run with a RBI single to center and a wild pitch plated the final run of the inning.

Schaumburg added two more in the top of the fourth inning to take 5-0 lead. Kenny Towns smashed a RBI double down the right field line, and the Boomers scored their next run on an attempted double steal. With Towns on third and Dylan Jones on first, Jones took off for second and was caught trying to steal, but he bought enough time for Towns to score.

Lake Erie was able to get on the board for the first time in the bottom of the third, plating a pair of runs on three straight two out hits. Aaron Hill reached on a base hit and made his way to third on Sean Hurley's double. Kewby Meyer followed with a two-run double to get the Crushers on the board.

Schaumburg fired back with a pair of runs on the top of the fourth, scoring both runs with two outs. Collin Ferguson drove in the first run with a RBI single, and Zach Weigel followed with a RBI double to plate Sean Godfrey.

The Crushers battled back, plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kevin LaChance began the inning with a bunt base hit and scored moments later on Cody Lenahan's RBI double. Lenehan scored later in the inning on Bryan DeLaRosa's sacrifice fly.

Lake Erie added one more run in the bottom of the seventh. Meyer reached on a one out error and Lenehan brought him home on a RBI single to right to bring the Crushers within two (7-5). The Boomers answered with another run in the top of the eighth on Godfrey's RBI single to center.

Gunner Kines (1-1) scored the victory for Schaumburg, allowing just a pair of runs on four hits over five innings of action. Jake Joyce (4) tossed a scoreless ninth inning to grab the save. Donald Murray (2-3) took the loss after surrendering seven runs on 10 hits over four innings of action.

Six Crushers hit safely on the night, but Lenehan led the way with a three hit performance, going 3-for-4 while driving in a pair of runs.

The Crushers continue their three-game series against the Schaumburg Boomers at Sprenger Stadium on Saturday night. Lefty Ben Smith (0-0, 5.79) will get the start for the Crushers and the Boomers will counter with righty Payton Lobdell (0-2, 3.00). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
