Lake Erie Crushers News Release
JOLIET, Ill. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, took an early lead on Thursday night against the Slammers. Joliet (10-13) rallied to tie things up in the fifth and then took the lead for good in the eighth to salvage the final game of the series.
The Crushers pushed across a couple of runs in the second inning against Joliet starter Duke Von Schamann (3-1). Sean Hurley got things started with a single. He scored on an RBI single from Cody Lenahan who later scored on a single by Mason Brown. With his single, Hurley extended his road on-base streak to 13 games.
Juan Perez made his first start in nearly two weeks for Lake Erie (15-9). He allowed a run in the second but induced a double play to end the inning.
In the fifth, Lake Erie added on two more runs after a two-run double by Kewby Meyer. Von Schamann only allowed one other hit after that and went eight innings for Joliet. He allowed four runs, two of which were earned.
The Slammers answered back in the bottom of the fifth with some help from the Crushers. Perez issued three straight walks to load the bases and that ended his night.
Louis Cohen entered the game and issued a walk to score the second run for Joliet. RJ Thompson followed with an RBI singe and then Ridge Hoopii-Haslam tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
Perez was charged with all four runs while allowing six walks and striking out five. He earned a no-decision.
The Slammers took their only lead in the eighth inning when Cody Clark led off with a walk against Richard McWilliams (1-1). Later in the inning with the go-ahead run in scoring position, Danny Zardon singles to give Joliet the lead for good.
Lake Erie went 4-2 on their road trip to Schaumburg and Joliet. They will host Schaumburg tomorrow night at Sprenger Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM. Donald Murray (2-2) goes for the Crushers while the Boomers send Gunnar Kines (0-1) to the hill.
