Lake Erie Crushers News Release

MARION, Ill. -- The Lake Erie Crushers turned in a complete effort on Wednesday evening at Rent One Park, scoring 12 times on 17 hits in a dominant, 12-3 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners.

The 17 hits in the win for the Crushers (32-41) marked their second highest hit total in a single game this season, and the loss for the Miners (48-26) was only their second against the Crushers this season.

Every Crusher in the starting lineup hit safely at least once on the night, while Brad Duffy (7-3) retired the first eight batters he faced, and went 5.1 innings to score the victory while the bullpen did not allow any runs.

It all started in the top of the second, where the Crushers posted their first of two three run innings. They had the bases loaded with two outs, when Chandler Brock walked to score Juan Sanchez. Austin Prott then ripped, what at first, appeared to be a bases clearing three run triple down the right field line, however, it was later determined that Brock didn't touch third on his way home, so he was ruled out on the play, and only two runs scored.

Lake Erie responded with another three spot in the third inning. Jose Barraza started the inning with a single up the middle, before Anderson Hidalgo was walked. Sanchez followed with a two-run triple to the gap in left center, and scored moments later on Emmanuel Quiles's sacrifice fly, to give Lake Erie a 6-0 lead.

The Crushers put the game out of reach in the fifth inning, when they scored four times on three hits to take a 10-0 advantage. Quiles struck again with a one out RBI single to left, and Boo Vazquez followed with the haymaker, a three-run homer to right, the first of his professional career.

The Miners got all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jerrud Sabourin stroked a two-run double down the left field line to get the Miners on the board, and he came home later in the inning on Craig Massey's RBI double.

The Crushers added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning. Prott and Brendan Costantino both reached on a fielder's choice to bring in runs, to count for the final two runs on the night.

Duffy turned in a nice start for the Crushers. He tossed three no-hit innings, before getting out of a jam in the fourth by inducing an inning ending double play, and allowed three runs on five hits over 5.1 innings and fanned six batters to score the victory. Brandon Cowan (1-2) took the loss, after allowing 10 runs on nine hits over five innings of work.

Five Crushers hit safely multiple times, with Barraza and Sanchez leading the way, with three hits each. Sanchez leads the team with five hits in the series. Prott, Brock, and Vazquez all turned in two hit games as well.

The Crushers will finish their three game series with the Southern Illinois Miners at Rent One Park on Thursday night. Left-hander Kolby Moore (1-2, 4.88) will start for the Crushers and righty Miguel Ramirez (2-5, 3.74) will start for the Miners. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM.
