SYRACUSE, NY - The Syracuse Crunch benefited from goals by five different players, including a pair of shorthanded tallies, in taking a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms on Saturday night in upstate New York. Andrew Murray led the way with two goals and two assists for the home team.

The Crunch started the scoring just 15 seconds into the game on a goal by Joakim Lindstrom. Geoff Platt fed Lindstrom for the early goal right off the center ice draw to give Syracuse the early 1-0 advantage.

Halfway through the period, Platt lit the lamp himself, beating Rejean Beauchemin for his 12th goal of the season to make it 2-0 at 10:26.

The Phantoms got on the board at 8:07 of the second period on the power play. Don Morrison fired a wrister from the right point through a screen set by Boyd Kane. The puck eluded Syracuse netminder Tomas Popperle to make it a 2-1 affair.

But Syracuse would skate away from there. Murray made it a 3-1 game with the team's first shorthanded goal at 15:45 of the middle frame. The Crunch then scored three times in the third period - Mark Hartigan at even strength just 1:15 into the stanza, Darcy Verot shorthanded at 4:04, and Murray on the power play at 14:55 - to make up the 6-1 final.

Beauchemin made 20 saves on 26 Syracuse shots in taking the loss, while Popperle earned the win with 34 saves on 35 Phantoms chances.

The Phantoms return to action on Wednesday, December 13 when they visit the Hartford Wolf Pack for a 7:00 tilt at the Hartford Civic Center. The club returns home on Friday, December 15 to host the Hershey Bears in a 7:05 start at the Wachovia Spectrum.
