
Crunch Suffer Shootout Loss to Phantoms

Syracuse, NY- The Syracuse Crunch picked up a point but fell to the Phantoms 4-3 via a shootout tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Phantoms centers Brayden Schenn and Garrett Roe scored during the tie-breaking drill to lift the Phantoms past the Crunch. Tyler Johnson was the only Crunch shooter to score during the shootout. With tonight's loss the Crunch fall to 14-5-1-2 overall and 10-2-0-2 on the road.
The Crunch power play was held scoreless on 11 attempts while allowing two power play goals on nine Phantoms chances.
Brett Connolly scored the game's first goal with just over two minutes remaining in the opening frame. Connolly followed his own shot to collect the rebound and put the puck past Phantoms netminder Scott Munroe for the 1-0 lead going into the first intermission.
The Phantoms went ahead 2-1 after two five-on-three power-play goals at the start of the middle stanza. Tye McGinn tied the game when he tipped a shot from the slot that sailed past a screened Dustin Tokarski 1:56 into the second period. Schenn gave the Phantoms the lead with a long shot from the right side 4:54 into the period.
Syracuse pulled even with Pierre-Cedric Labrie's fifth goal of the season. Labrie wristed a rebound past Munroe from the high slot at the 13:51 mark of the middle frame.
Schenn scored his second goal of the game to lift the Phantoms up 3-2 on a quick play off the faceoff with less than two minutes to play in the second period. Syracuse responded less than 50 seconds later when a wrist shot from Cory Conacher evened the game 3-3 going into the second intermission.
After a scoreless third period and overtime the game went to a shootout where the Phantoms scored on two of five shots to secure the 4-3 win.
The Crunch travel to Bridgeport for a 3 p.m. matchup against the Sound Tigers on Sunday.
