Crunch Shut out Phantoms 3-0

Syracuse, NY- Riku Helenius stopped all 21 shots he faced to shut out the Phantoms 3-0 tonight at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

Helenius recorded his second shutout of the season as the Crunch now hold a 3-0-1-1 series advantage over the Phantoms. After a scoreless first period the Crunch struck twice in the middle frame and once in the third to win 3-0 and improve to 16-6-1-2 overall and 11-3-0-2 on the road.

Alex Killorn opened the scoring 4:53 into second period with his seventh goal of the season. Killorn took a pass from defenseman Keith Aulie and made a move towards the net before beating Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe stick-side. Mike Angelidis picked up the secondary assist on the play.

Richard Panik scored a shorthanded goal to double the Crunch lead 9:39 into the second stanza. Panik scored the Crunch's fourth shorthanded goal of the season on a partial breakaway while Jared Nightingale was serving cross-checking penalty. Defenseman Dmitry Korobov picked up the lone helper on the goal.

Defenseman Radko Gudas extended the Crunch lead to 3-0 with an unassisted goal at the 13:44 mark of the final frame. Munroe finished the game with 23 saves on 26 shots.

The Crunch return home to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday, Dec. 15 on Stanley Steemer Tired Teddy Toss night.

Crunchables: The Crunch improve to 14-0-1-0 when leading after the second period...Alex Killorn has four points in his last two games (3g, 1a)...After going 0 for 5 on the power-play tonight, the Crunch have not scored a power-play goal in four consecutive games.
