Binghamton Senators News Release
WILKES-BARRE, P.A. - The Binghamton Senators ended a two-game losing skid with a 3-1 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza Friday night. With the win, the B-Sens broke their tie with the rival Pens, taking over sole possession of second place in the East Division with 30 points.
The B-Sens were first to get on the scoreboard as Hugh Jessiman tipped in an Andre Benoit shot on a power play at 13:19 of the first period. Patrick Wiercioch received credit for the secondary assist on the goal.
Binghamton added to their lead with another power play tally in the second period. Jakob Silfverberg scored his eighth goal of the season at 14:15 of the middle frame. With the goal Silfverberg is now tied with Derek Grant for the team lead in goals. Benoit drew the primary assist, his second of the game. Mike Hoffman also assisted on the play.
The Penguins pulled within one in the third period as Trevor Smith beat Ben Bishop with a low wrister at 8:10 to make it a 2-1 hockey game.
Wiercioch would give the B-Sens some insurance with a tally at 16:08 of the final period. Hoffman had the lone assist on the goal, earning his second helper of the game.
Bishop started in goal for the B-Sens and made 26 saves en route to the victory. The Binghamton netminder has now won his last six starts. Brad Thiessen tended goal for the Penguins, also making 26 saves.
The B-Sens return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 19 as they host the same Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tickets to the game are $19 for side and $18 for end seats.
