Crunch Fly Back to Shoot Down Aeros

Syracuse, NY (November 9, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch faced off for their third game in as many days Sunday, putting away their opponents from Houston by a 2-1 count. Today's win against the Aeros extended the Crunch's home regular season winning streak to 16 consecutive games dating back to last season. Syracuse also extended its regular season points streak dating back to last season to 21 games. With the win, goalie Dan LaCosta improved to 7-1-0-0 on the season.

The first period of play remained scoreless as each team failed to convert on multiple power play chances. LaCosta denied 11 shots, while Houston's Barry Brust turned away 14 first period bids.

The Aeros drew first blood 12 minutes and 48 seconds into the second period on a power play effort. Clayton Stoner ripped a slap shot from the blue line and John Lammers poked home the rebound for the 1-0 Houston advantage. The Crunch failed to capitalize on two more power play chances in the second.

Syracuse finally got on the board at 10:12 of the third period when Jonathan Sigalet's centering feed to Maksim Mayorov deflected off of a Houston defenseman into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The Crunch kept the momentum going a little over seven minutes later when Derek Dorsett passed the puck from behind Houston's net to an open Mike York, who netted a one-timer passed Brust for the game-winner.

CRUNCHABLES: Four of the Crunch's nine wins have come when trailing heading into the third period...Syracuse accomplished that feat only three times all of last year...Alexandre Picard returned to the Crunch, playing his first game since being assigned by Columbus this afternoon... Nikita Filatov has six points (3g, 3a) in his last six games...Filatov also has a three game point-streak.
