Cleveland, OH - The Lake Erie Monsters scored four goals in the third period to comeback and defeat the Hamilton Bulldogs 6-4 at Quicken Loans Arena. Chris Stewart recorded four points including a hat-trick to lead the Monsters to victory.
Yannick Weber opened the game's scoring at 12:00 of the first frame. Yanick Lehoux waited patiently with the puck before sending a pass to Weber who managed to sneak in behind a Monsters defenceman. Weber one-timed a shot that beat Lake Erie starting goaltender Tyler Weiman. Max Pacioretty also earned an assist on the play.
The Monsters quickly responded with a goal by Chris Stewart at 15:13 of the first period. Immediately following a face-off, Stewart received the puck and rifled a shot that surprised Hamilton starting goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and trickled into the back of the net.
Chris Stewart added his second goal of the game while on the power play at 7:38 of the middle stanza to give the Monsters a 2-1 lead. Stewart released a wrist shot that beat Desjardins under the left pad and squeaked into the net.
The Bulldogs replied with three power play goals of their own at 9:51, 13:18 and 17:03 of the second frame. Mike Glumac grabbed a rebound before feeding a pass over to David Desharnais who tapped the puck into the net to tie the game 2-2. With a two-man advantage, Ben Maxwell fired a shot on net from the point that Matt D'Agostini redirected into the net. D'Agostini added his second goal when he deked through the Lake Erie defenders before dangling the puck by Weiman and snapping a shot into the Lake Erie net.
Lake Erie added three goals in the final frame to take a 5-4 lead. Directly after a face-off, T.J. Galiardi tipped a Mike Vernace shot through the legs of Desjardins at 14:44. Vernace added a goal of his own at 16:16 when he snapped a shot over the left shoulder of Desjardins. Philippe Dupuis scored the game-winning goal when he grabbed a loose puck at the side of Desjardins and banged it into the net at 18:15.
Chris Stewart added an empty net marker to complete the hat-trick at 19:32 of the third period and seal the win for Lake Erie.
