Syracuse Crunch News Release

Rochester, NY (December 26, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch could not carry over the momentum built from their back-to-back wins heading into Christmas break last week, falling to the Rochester Americans by a 5-2 score tonight at the Blue Cross Arena.

Jacob Markstrom stopped 43 of a season-high 45 Crunch shots on goal, as Scott Timmins (1g, 1a) and A.J. Jenks (2 assists) each had two points for Rochester. Patrick Maroon and Josh Green each tallied goals for the Crunch in the losing effort.

Rochester's Jeff LoVecchio got the scoring started for his team when he corralled the puck and stuffed it in past J.P. Levasseur on a backhand wraparound attempt to make it 1-0 at the 6:46 mark of the first period.

Although the Crunch dominated play for most of the game's first 20 minutes and out-shot Rochester by a 17-8 margin, the Americans went up 2-0 when Timmins raced in on a short-handed breakaway and tucked a shot inside the right post past Levasseur with just 29 seconds left in the period.

Maroon drew the Crunch to within one when he scored the first of the club's two power play goals on the evening after his shot popped up in the air and fell over the goal line to make it a 2-1 game 4:26 into the second.

Rochester answered with a power play goal of its own just under five minutes later when Kendal McArdle's shot from the point got by Levasseur and then would take a 4-1 lead before the second stanza was over when Michael Caruso scored his fourth of the season with 17 seconds left.

The Crunch took advantage of a carry-over power play and got back to within two when Dan Sexton used his speed to gain the zone and backhanded a pass over to Green on the right side, who rifled a shot past Markstrom to make it a 4-2 contest just seven seconds into the third period.

The Crunch had a golden opportunity to get back into the game when Rochester took back-to-back-to-back penalties at the 11:07, 11:43 and 12:32 marks, but could not convert on any of the 5-on-3 chances.

Rochester iced the game with 1:51 left in regulation with an empty-net goal from Michal Repik, his fifth point in three games against the Crunch this year.
