Crunch Announce Year-End Awards

Syracuse, NY (April 6, 2002) - The Syracuse Crunch announced the recipients of their year-end awards at a ceremony held prior to the start of their game against the Albany River Rats tonight.

The Crunch organization itself was among tonight's recipients, as Syracuse Crunch President and CEO Howard Dolgon accepted the John Chick Trophy for winning the Central Division. Defenseman Derrick Walser and goaltender J.F. Labbe were the night's big winners, collecting a combined five awards.

Walser, the team leader in points on the season, walked away with three awards including the Arrow Fence Defenseman of the Year award. In 72 games with Syracuse this season, Walser has posted 60 points (23 goals, 29 assists). Walser also received the Deli-Boy Power Player of the Year award, along with the Booster Club Ray Schultz Memorial Trophy.

Labbe was the other recipient of multiple awards. He was awarded an AHL ring for being named to 2002 AHL Second Team All-Star Team and was voted as this season's CO-MVP.

Other award recipients included Adam Borzecki, voted as the Unsung Hero, Kent McDonell, voted as the team's Most Improved Player, Duvie Westcott, voted as Carrier Rookie of the Year and Sean Pronger, voted as CO-MVP. The teams leading scorer award, Drake Oil's Players' Player award and Man of the Year award will be presented prior to the Crunch's first home playoff game.
