
Crunch Announce Staff Promotions

Syracuse, NY (September 18, 2003) â The Syracuse Crunch announced today that they have promoted Jim Sarosy to the position of Vice President. The team also promoted Michael Folsom to Director of Community Relations and Group Sales and Christine Porpiglio to Director of Public Relations and Advertising.
Sarosy returns to the Crunch for his ninth season, having most recently served as the teams' VP of Communications and Hockey Operations. The 2003-04 season will be his second full season overseeing day-to-day operations, along with General Manager Vance Lederman.
Sarosy, 30, is a key figure in all business operations undertaken by the team, he directly oversees the Crunch's sales force, all broadcasting issues and marketing, communications, client services, fan development, community relations and game operations. In addition, Jim serves as the hockey liaison between the Crunch, the Columbus Blue Jackets and their two minor league affiliates, assisting with player operations, contracts and immigration.
The American Hockey League honored him with the Ken McKenzie Award for outstanding executive in PR and Marketing, following the 2001-02 season. The Ken McKenzie Award annually honors the individual who accomplished the most during the season in promoting his or her AHL team.
Sarosy joined the team after graduating from SUNY Cortland with a degree in sports management and physical education. While finishing his degree, he served as the supervisor for their Alumni Ice Arena. He currently serves on the Cortland State Sport Management Advisory Board.
Michael Folsom, a lifelong resident of Central New York, returns for his sixth year with the Crunch. Folsom, 23, continues to be responsible for overseeing the Crunch's community involvement throughout the year, including the P&C Street Hockey series and Crunch Into Reading program during the summer and all off-ice events during the season. He is a key member of the Crunch's sales team, assisting in the development of the Crunch's groups sales effort. He also acts as the team's liaison between area youth hockey organizations and Central New York charities.
Christine Porpiglio begins her fourth season with the Crunch and second overseeing the Crunch's public and media relations departments. Porpiglio, 25, is responsible for maintaining the day-to-day relations between Crunch players and the media, in addition to the Crunch's internal and external communications, which include the team's publications, website, statistical documentation, press conferences and press box operations. She is also responsible for the Crunch's advertising efforts. Prior to joining the Crunch as an intern in the media relations department, she graduated from SUNY Cortland with a degree in business economics and management sciences.
The Crunch's home schedule begins with the Express Mart Opening Night on Saturday, October 11, when the Hershey Bears visit the War Memorial at Oncenter. The first 2,000 fans in attendance that night will receive a special edition 10th Anniversary pennant, compliments of Express Mart. Discounted coupons for tickets to the Express Mart Opening Night are available at any Express Mart location, which can be redeemed at the Oncenter Box Office.
