Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
HIGHLIGHTS: The Williamsport Crosscutters shut out the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 2-0 Friday evening, snapping a five-game slide to their Pinckney Division rivals. The Cutters got both runs early to stake Jacob Diekman in his second start for Williamsport. Dominic Brown singled to lead off the bottom of the first and came in to score on a single by Michael Taylor. In the home half of the second, Tim Kennelly hit his second home run of the season. That is all the run support the Crosscutters provided, but it was enough for Diekman (2-0). The southpaw allowed six base runners over five and two-thirds. Diekman also struck out three before giving way to the bullpen in the sixth. Jarrod Freeman finished the game for Williamsport, pitching three and a third while allowing two hits and striking out four to earn his first save of the year. Mahoning Valley threatened in the top of the ninth, and had the go ahead run at the plate. Nick Petrucci, who had homered in the eleventh inning at Bowman Field on July 29th to lead the Scrappers to a 7-5 win, popped the ball up to deep right-center field. The ball caromed of center fielder Dominic Brown, and into the glove of right fielder Matt Spencer for the game's final out. The victory was the Cutters first over the Scrappers since July 28th, ending a streak of five losses, including the last four by one run in each game. The Crosscutters threw their first shutout since July 7th at Bowman Field over Tri-City. Williamsport plays in Batavia Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
