EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey - The Columbus Crew fell to the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, Sunday at Giants Stadium, snapping the club's five-game MLS win streak.

Red Bulls midfielder Dane Richards scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute. After a Crew corner kick was cleared out of the area, Richards collected the ball and took off down the field on the counterattack. Richards dribbled to the top of the Crew box, evaded midfielder Brian Carroll and slotted a slow roller inside the left post to give New York the eventual game-winner.

NOTES:

The Crew is now 10-4-9 (39 pts.). The Black & Gold remains in first place in the Eastern Conference with 39 pts. (in 23 games) and trails west-leading Houston (40 pts. in 25 games) by just one point for first place in the overall MLS standings.

Tonight's match was only the second time all season that the Crew has failed to score at least one goal. The previous occurrence was in a scoreless draw with Chicago on July 11.

Several Crew players will now depart the squad to participate in upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying with their respective national teams. Defender Chad Marshall and midfielder Robbie Rogers will join the U.S. Men's National Team in its preparations for matches against El Salvador on Sept. 5 and Trinidad & Tobago on Sept. 9. Meanwhile, forward Alejandro Moreno will join the Venezuelan National Team for matches against Chile on Sept. 5 and Peru on Sept. 9.

The Crew now enjoys a week off and will next return to action on Sunday, September 13 when it hosts the Houston Dynamo at Crew Stadium at 5 p.m. ET. The match, which will be televised on ONN-TV, will be the second and final regular season match between the two clubs this season.
