Columbus Crew SC News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Crew drew with the Kansas City Wizards, 3-3, Thursday night in an exciting, up-and-down match at Crew Stadium. Columbus found itself down early thanks to a Frankie Hejduk own goal and a score by former OSU Buckeye Roger Espinoza. The Crew stormed back with the match's next three goals - from Guillermo Barros Schelotto, Alejandro Moreno and Chad Marshall - to take a one goal lead into the half. Neither side was able to find the back of the net throughout most of the second half, as Columbus looked to put the game away and Kansas City sought to draw even. Late in the proceedings, Josh Wolff was finally able to find the goal the Wizards were looking for, as he equalized in the 75th minute to send both sides away from the match with a point apiece.

Notes:

Guillermo Barros Schelotto registered two assists to go along with his goal in the 26th minute, giving him his third multiple assist game of the season. Schelotto also registered two assists in the Crew's matches against Toronto on April 12 and the Chicago Fire on July 5.

Alejandro Moreno notched his team-leading seventh goal of the season tonight; he now ranks fifth in MLS in goals scored heading into the remaining Week 17 schedule.

Recently-named U.S. Olympian Robbie Rogers assisted on Moreno's goal in the 33rd minute, giving him his first assist of the 2008 season. Chad Marshall scored his second goal of the season tonight; his first goal of 2008 also came as a result of a Schelotto corner kick against the Wizards, on June 14.

Recently-acquired Wizards striker Josh Wolff scored the equalizing goal for K.C, in his first match since returning to the club. Wolff rejoined the club after two seasons with 1860 Munich in the German Second Bundesliga. In his previous stint, Wolff played 80 games with the Wizards from 2003-2006, registering 27 goals and 20 assists. Ohio State University product Roger Espinoza scored the Wizards' second goal, in the 24th minute, giving the rookie the first score of his MLS career.

The Crew is now 5-2-2 at home this season. It now has a full month off before its next league match at Crew Stadium. It will next play Colorado (7/27) and Houston (8/2) on the road before returning to host FC Dallas in a nationally televised match on Fox Soccer Channel on August 16 on 7:30 p.m.

The Crew will next take on West Ham United of England's Premier League this Sunday, July 20 at 5 p.m. in an international friendly at Crew Stadium.
