CHIVAS USA PLAYERS NAMED TO SO CAL CONFERENCE âSTARTING XI' TEAMS: With the 2007-08 Development Academy season now complete, five Chivas USA players have been named to the âStarting XI' for the Southern California Conference in the league. These all-star teams were selected by Development Academy coaches and National Team scouts. At the U-18 level, the Red-and-White had defender Omar Elmasri and midfielders Jesse Paredes and Mario Ledezma picked to represent the team, while the U-16 team included midfielder Carlo Chueca and forward Jorge Ramirez from Chivas USA. For full âStarting XI' teams from each of the eight Development Academy conferences at both the U-18 and U-16 levels can be found at the U.S. Soccer website.
AMBER HERNANDEZ OF SOUTH VALLEY CHIVAS ACADEMY CALLED UP TO MEXICO U-17 TEAM: Amber Hernandez, a 15-year-old member of the South Valley Chivas Academy in Porterville, Calif., has been called up to the Mexican U-17 National Team for the squad's upcoming participation in the CONCACAF U-17 Women's Championship. Hernandez was selected by coach Leonardo Cuellar, and will be part of the team that will face Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Canada in the group stage. The tournament runs from July 17-27 in Trinidad and Tobago.
SPECIAL âVERANO MLS' SESSION NEXT TUESDAY AT BELL GARDENS: Major League Soccer and Chivas USA's exciting summer soccer program, Verano MLS, enters its final week at Bell Gardens, and will host a special session next Tuesday, July 22. In its second edition, Verano MLS is a free summer soccer program giving youth ages 8-12 a free opportunity to play pick-up-style soccer twice a week in a safe and controlled environment. The program will run from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on selected dates in June and July. In the second-to-last session in Southern California, Tang will be on hand with samples of new flavors, and will also provide participants with a chance to meet acclaimed young actor Adrian Alonso.
