COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (8-8-9, 33 points) notched its second straight victory with a 3-0 defeat of the Houston Dynamo (7-13-4, 25 points) at Columbus Crew Stadium on Saturday night. With the win, the Crew remains in the fourth MLS Cup Playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The victory concluded a three-match homestand in which the Black & Gold went 2-1-0 with an aggregate scoreline of 7-1 over the final two contests.
Columbus got on the board first in the 35th minute when Justin Meram pounced on a turnover by David Horst. Meram, who was named Barbasol Man of the Match for the third straight clash, took a few dribbles and neatly slotted past Tally Hall.
In the second half, the Black & Gold extended their advantage. Adam Bedell notched his second goal of the season by heading home a Meram cross in the 59th minute. He was replaced by Aaron Schoenfeld, who registered his first goal of the campaign just five minutes later with a powerful header of his own.
Crew midfielder Romain Gall, recently acquired via the MLS weighted lottery, made his club debut in the 88th minute, replacing Meram.
The Crew next takes to the road by traveling to Stade Saputo to face the Montreal Impact on Saturday, August 30 (7:30 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
