Craword gets first career shutout

April 12, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release

Corey Crawford picked up his first professional shutout, and Martin St. Pierre had a goal and an assist, as the Admirals defeated the Senators 2-0.

Martin St. Pierre gave the Admirals the lead with a well-executed deflection play midway through the opening period. After St. Pierre won the face-off, Nick Kuiper got the puck along the right half-wall and fired a shot toward the slot. St. Pierre got his stick on the puck at ankle height and re-directed it over the left shoulder of Binghamton goaltender Kelly Guard at 10:55. Crawford stopped 14 shots in the period, and the St. Pierre goal gave Norfolk a 1-0 lead after one period.

It appeared as if the score would remain 1-0 after two periods. However, Scott Bertoli got the puck in deep on the power play with only 21 seconds left in the period. He bounced a shot off Guard and into the back of the net. Crawford turned aside all eight second-period shots, and the Admirals took a two-goal lead into the final frame.

Neither team found the back of the net in the final frame, as Crawford stopped eight third period shots to pick up the shutout in a 2-0 Norfolk victory.

Corey Crawford picked up his first professional shutout by turning aside all 30 Binghamton shots. Kelly Guard stopped 29 of 31 shots and took the loss.

Norfolk was 1-3 on the power play. Binghamton was 0-3.
