Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
HICKORY, NC - For Lakewood BlueClaws starter Heitor Correa, his debut was a sour one as the Hickory Crawdads got to him for four runs and had the BlueClaws (13-10) leave with a split in the series in a 6-1 win.
Correa (0-1) was called up from extended spring training to replace Rob Roth who was injured in his last start. He has been pitching in the Phillies organization since the age of 16. Correa went 4.2 innings and allowed eight hits and four runs. He was relieved by Jacob Diekman and Ryan Bergh who ended the game.
The Crawdads (12-12) scored in spurts as they put up single runs in the second and third innings, two runs in the fifth and two more runs in the seventh. Playing without one of the leagues leading hitters, Michael Bianucci, a cast of others combined for 12 hits against BlueClaws pitching in the win.
Jacob Kaase hit his first home run of the season, a solo effort in the third off Correa and he lead a team that bashed two tripled and one double on the day. The Crawdads did well with runners in scoring position as they went 5-for-12.
One of the top prospects in the Texas Rangers organization, Martin Perez (1-2) showed why he is so highly regarded as he went 5.1 innings allowing just two hits and one run. Jacob Brigham came in for a three-inning save as he continued the dominance against BlueClaws hitting after Cody Eppley recorded the final two outs in the sixth.
The BlueClaws tallied their lone run in the sixth inning as Leandro Castro doubled and later scored on a groundout to the pitcher. Jim Murphy led the BlueClaws with two hits on the afternoon.
The BlueClaws finished the road swing with a 3-5 record and will have off on Monday before they return home for an eight-game homestand beginning on Tuesday. The BlueClaws will welcome the league- leading Kannapolis Intimidators to town for four games and then the Crawdads for four. Tuesday's starter will be Jesus Sanchez (1-2) and the Intimidators will send righty Dexter Carter (1-0) to the mound.
Note: The BlueClaws were sent catcher Orlando Guevara. He is active and will wear number 29.
