Kannapolis one hit short in 4-3 loss to Lake County

KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators squandered a number of late opportunities on Sunday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in a 4-3 loss to Lake County.

Kannapolis stranded 10 runners in the ballgame, including the bases loaded in the eighth inning. The Intimidators (14-10) were 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position.

It was the first time all season that Kannapolis lost in game started by Charlie Leesman. Leesman (3-1) lasted just 4 2/3 innings, giving up all four runs on four hits. He also walked a season-high four batters and struck out three.

And while the bullpen did their part, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings, the offense could never rally from an early 4-1 deficit. Leroy Hunt, Drew O'Neil, Charlis Burdie and Dan Remenowsky kept the Intimidators in the ballgame, but had little to show for their efforts after the final out.

Alexander Perez (1-0) got the win for the Captains (10-13), going five innings. The 19-year-old right-hander gave up two runs on seven hits. Steve Smith took his fourth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Four Intimidators had multi-hit ballgames, including Eduardo Escobar, John Curtis, Joe Persichina and Tyler Kuhn. Persichina and Sergio Morales each had RBI singles.
