Hickory Crawdads News Release
Hickory's three-game winning streak came to a close Tuesday in Savannah, losing game one of its series to the Sand Gnats, 7-5.
The Crawdads would score in the top of the first inning when Matt Hague's RBI sac fly drove in Albert Laboy, who had walked, but then the Gnats used a four-run third inning and two runs in the fourth to pull away.
A three-run home run from Greg Veloz and a solo blast from Carlos Guzman, along with a two-run double from Casey Craig, fueled Savannah's (17-19, 49-56) attack.
Offensively for Hickory (14-24, 44-64), six different players notched the six hits (all singles), while four plated RBIs and five shared the runs.
Maikel Cleto (4-9) earned the win for Savannah, while Rodolpho Aguirre (0-1) lost his first start of the year in allowing four runs in three innings. Jose Bierd earned the save, his eighth.
