Kannapolis started their intimidating early, jumping out to a 1-0 lead over Hickory in the bottom of the first inning. Short stop Eduardo Escobar singled his way on to lead off the bottom half of the frame. The leadoff batter then moved over to second base after an errant throw on the pick off attempt by Hickory starter Jake Brigham. 2B Drew Garcia then singled to right field, driving in Escobar and making it a 1-0 contest.
The scoring would continue in the third inning, as the Intimidators plated one run off of DH Kenny Williams' RBI single. CF Jordan Cheatham singled his way on to lead off the inning and swiped second base for his second stolen base of the season. After moving over to third base on Escobar's sacrifice bunt, Cheatham would come the rest of the 90 feet on Garcia's RBI ground out to make it 2-0 after three. However, Kannapolis wasn't done in the scoring column just yet, as the Intimidators would find two more runs in the home half of the fourth frame. 1B Jorge Castillo reached on a fielding error by Crawdads 2B Jason Ogata with one out. Two batters later, C John Curtis singled to right with Castillo going on the hit-and-run attempt and making all the way to third base. Williams then came through with his second RBI single of the night, bringing Castillo the rest of the way home and making it 3-0. After a Cheatham walk, Escobar picked up an RBI single to center, plating Curtis and pushing the Kannapolis lead to 4-0 after four innings of play. The Hickory bats got going in the sixth inning with SS Edward Martinez singling his way on to lead off the top of the frame. Martinez would then move over to second base on DH Jarod Bolden's groundout to short. RF Mike Bianucci came to the plate with one on and one out and hit a bloop single to shallow left fiend, scoring Martinez, who was running on contact, from second base to make it 4-1 Kannapolis at the end of the sixth.
In the seventh, Hickory 2B Jason Ogata reach after being hit by a pitch with one out. C Doug Hogan then came to the plate and double to deep center field, moving Ogata to third on the play. CF David Paisano then hit a sharp ground ball up the third base side, causing Intimidators 3B Jon Gilmore to bobble the ball and allowing Ogata to score, Hogan to move to third and Paisano to reach on the error. That would make it a 4-2 contest and wrap up the scoring for both teams.
