Second baseman Albert Cartwright homered, stole two bases and helped turn three double plays as the Lexington Legends won the opener of a four-game series with the Rome Braves 4-2 at Applebee's Park Tuesday night. Starting and winning pitcher Ross Seaton (3-1) shut out the Braves on four hits through seven innings to lower his earned run average to 1.14.

The Legends moved in front in the third when Rome starter Randall Delgado (L, 0-3) gave up a bases-loaded walk to Kody Hinze. They added to their lead in the fourth. Pedro Gonzalez struck out, but reached first base on a wild pitch. Ebert Rosario singled, and Ricardo Bonfante sacrificed the runners to second and third. Gonzalez scored on Jay Austin's infield out, and Rosario came home on Cartwright's single to make it 3-0.

Cartwright led off the bottom of the seventh with his second home run of the year to give Lexington a 4-0 lead. L.V. Ware hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth off reliever Patrick Urckfitz to cut the lead in half, but Urckfitz got out of the inning with no further scoring, and Danny Meszaros allowed only a harmless single in the ninth as he picked up his seventh save in as many opportunities.

The two teams meet Wednesday morning in an Education Day game at Applebee's Park. First pitch is set for 10:05 a.m.
