Hickory Crawdads News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads came back for the 2-1 win in 10 innings against the Kannapolis Intimidators before 2,565 fans at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium on Friday evening. 3B Matt West delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th inning for Hickory.
Both starters -- RHP Wilfredo Boscan for Hickory and RHP Stephen Sauer for Kannapolis -- alternated scoreless innings through the first four frames, before the Intimidators (43-23, 80-56) broke the scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth. Three singles to start the inning accounted for the run, including the RBI base hit by 1B Dan Black, which made it 1-0.
Boscan dealt a scoreless sixth before giving way to RHP Andrew Doyle who dealt a scoreless seventh, before the Crawdads (29-38, 62-74) tied it up in the top of the eighth inning. 1B Ed Koncel drew a walk to get on, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and took third on a LF Mike Hollander single. RHP Drew O'Neil (4-1) then took over on the mound for Kannapolis and dealt a wild pitch to bring in Koncel and tie it 1-1.
RHP Jorge Quintero (3-0) posted scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth innings, keeping the tie intact and sending the game to extra innings. The Crawdads quickly moved ahead in the top of the 10th, striking for a run against LHP Enrique Lechuga. With C Vinny DiFazio at second, RF Eric Fry at first and two away, 3B Matt West ripped an RBI single to center field, scoring DiFazio right before Fry was tagged out at second to end the inning. Quintero then dealt a scoreless bottom of the 10th to close the 2-1 extra-inning win for the Crawdads. Quintero earned the victory for Hickory, while O'Neil was tagged with the loss for Kannapolis.
