Tourists Shutout Drive for Playoff Berth

(Greenville, SC) Dan Houston pitched Asheville to the post season on Friday in a 4-0 win. With the magic number at two and a loss from Augusta just moments prior, the Tourists win completed their worst-to-first season turn around. Houston tossed seven scoreless innings and Asheville (68-67, 42-24) received three of their four runs in the first three innings for their second consecutive trip to the post season. The win moves Asheville to over a .500 record for the first time this season.

Dan Houston dominated through seven scoreless innings. Houston (8-9) allowed just three hits and three walks with six strikeouts on 79 pitches. Isaiah Froneberger came in the eighth inning and was removed after consecutive hits and a line out to center. Michael Marby entered with the potential tying run at the plate and picked up a fly out and strikeout. Marby then pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.

Mike Zuanich brought in the first run with a single in the first inning. Jordan Pacheco walked with two outs and Kiel Roling advanced him to second with a base hit. Zuanich then singled for his 33rd RBI of the season and a 1-0 lead.

Thomas Field scored for a 2-0 lead in the second on a Scott Robinson hit to left. Field doubled off the Green Monster with one out for his 16th double of the season.

Kiel Roling delivered an RBI single in the third inning to take a 3-0 edge. Roling drove in Delta Cleary Jr. following a walk and wild pitch.

Dan Houston did not allow a runner to reach second base until the seventh inning. Greenville loaded the bases on a two walks and a double before Oscar Tejada flew out to deep center field on a running catch from Delta Cleary Jr.

Asheville will play game two of the series on Saturday at 7:05 pm. The Tourists will throw Jonathan Aristil (4-8, 4.92) against RHP Jeremy Kehrt.
