Long Island Ducks News Release


(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 12, 2010) - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Long Island Ducks 8-5 on Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the 2010 season.

Southern Maryland exploded for seven runs in the third inning off Ducks' starter Randy Leek (11-9) and never looked back. Dan Reichert (17-9) picked up the win, allowing five runs in his six and one-third innings of work.

Willis Otanez led the way for the Flock with three hits and two RBI, while Matt Craig homered for the Crabs.

The loss ends another successful season at the Duck Pond. The Ducks once again enjoyed the best attendance in the league as a combined 410, 619 fans came out to Suffolk County Sports Park for an All-Star Summer, presented by T-Mobile.

Prior to the game, the Ducks held ceremonies honoring two different impressive feats. Matt Esquivel and Matt Cavagnaro were named PC Richard & Son Whistle Players of the Year as they scored the most runs when selected as the PC Richard & Son Whistle Player of the Game. For their accomplishments, Esquivel received a brand new Nintendo Wii, while Cavagnaro received a $100 gift card to PC Richard & Son.

The Ducks also announced that catcher Robinson Cancel has been named the 2010 Delmonte-Smelson Most Valuable Player. Cancel was given a Movado watch, courtesy of Delmonte-Smelson, for his efforts.

Esquivel's 11 home runs and 45 RBI led the Flock at the Duck Pond, while Cancel's .318 average paced theDucks as well.

Long Island will be back at the Duck Pond in 2011, ready to bring the fans and families of Long Island the best, most affordable summer entertainment around. The Ducks will now begin a seven-game roadtrip to close out their 2010 season. Game time is set for 6:35 PM at TD Bank Ballpark against the Somerset Patriots on Monday.
