Long Island Ducks News Release

Central Islip, N.Y. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Long Island Ducks 10-2 on Saturday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,156 at Suffolk County Sports Park.

Southern Maryland cracked the scoreboard early with three runs in the top of the first inning off Ducks' starter Daryl Harang. Four hits and a RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Travis Garcia highlighted the frame.

The Crabs tacked on four more in the second as David Espinosa's RBI double, a run-scoring wild pitch and a RBI single by Jeremy Owens did the damage.

Long Island broke through against Crabs' starter Connor Robertson in the bottom of the fourth when Matt Padgett blasted a two-run homer over the right-center field wall to cut into the deficit.

Crabs' reliever Chris Hayes (3-0) picked up the win, firing three shutout innings, with five strikeouts. Harang (4-4) was charged with the loss, surrendering seven runs (six earned) in his one and two-thirds innings of work.

Willis Otanez paced the Ducks with two hits and a run scored, while Padgett chipped in with his homer, two RBI, and a walk.
