HARLINGEN, Texas- The Edinburg Coyotes (18-26) defeated the Harlingen WhiteWings (15-29) 3-1 in a pitching duel Friday night at Harlingen Field.

The Coyote pitching staff was the key to the win. Aaron Guerra pitched well for his third win of the year (3-1). He threw six innings allowing just one run on six hits. The bullpen came in and got out of key situations to keep the lead for Guerra.

The Coyotes got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Logan Wood grounded out to third base which allowed Gary Roche to score. The Coyotes got the run without getting a hit in the inning. The Coyotes added to their lead after Mayobanex Santana started the fourth inning with a single. Santana then scored on three consecutive wild pitches by Angel Cordero, who got the loss (1-3), which made the score 2-0.

The WhiteWings stayed close after Ryan Fox hit his fifth home run of the season off a two-two pitch from Guerra. The ball sneaked over the left field wall to cut the Coyotes' lead in half. The Coyotes added to their lead in the top of the seventh inning after Robert Matlock hit a ground ball to Amadeo Zazueta that scored Roche from third to put the score at 3-1. The throw from Zazueta should have been the final out of the inning but it was thrown wildly to first for the second error of the game. Julio Castro worked a perfect ninth inning for his sixth save of the season.

The Coyotes and WhiteWings will play the series finale on Saturday night at Harlingen Field with the first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. John Maschino (1-3) will be the starter for the Coyotes against Todd Lutz (2-1).
