
Broncos can't cash in on scoring chances

Laredo, TX-The Laredo Broncos stranded 14 men on base as they lost to the Alexandria Aces at Bringhurst Field by the score of 4-1 on Friday. The Broncos continue on their 6 game trip with the finale of a 3 game series against the Alexandria Aces on Saturday night. For more information you can call (956)-723-BASE (2273).
The Broncos got on the scoreboard first in the 1st inning. Steven Wright led off the game with a home run, his 2nd of the season. That gave Laredo the early 1-0 lead.
The Aces would get on the board for the 1st time in the bottom of the 4th inning. Selwyn Langaigne led off the inning with a single. Then he went to 3rd, on a double by Palmer Karr Jr. Then with one out, Blake Butler grounded out, but Langainge scored on the play. That would tie the game at 1.
Alexandria would grab the lead in the bottom of the 5th. Albert Gonzalez led off with a single. An Eddie Fitzpatrick sacrifice bunt would move him to 2nd. Bryan Sabatella then singled putting runners on the corners. Then Luis Guance singled into left field scoring Gonzalez and moving Sabatella to 2nd. A walk to the next batter Selwyn Langaigne would load the bases. Palmer Karr Jr. would then double scoring both Sabatella and Guance. That gave the Aces a 4-1 lead.
The Broncos had opportunities to score in both the 6th and the 7th innings. The Broncos got two straight hits from Anthony Bennett and Santiago Guerrero to start the 6th inning. But Aces starter Alejandro Martinez would get Mark Perez and Eric Padilla to fly out and Steven Wright to strike out to end the threat.
Charlie Foster would come into the game for Martinez in the 7th and get in a bit of a jam. Matt Lawman would lead off the inning with a single. Foster would get Dwayne White to fly out and Luany Sanchez to strike out. Ben Tinius would then single putting runners on the corners. But, Anthony Bennett would fly out to end the inning and keeping the score 4-1 Aces.
Gregorio Martinez pitched well for the Broncos in his 6 innings of work. He gave up 4 runs on 8 hits. He walked only 2 batters and struck out 8. Rhett Barber came into the game in the bottom of the 7th inning. Barber would walk the bases loaded in the 7th inning with 2 outs, but got pinch hitter Jose Umbria to fly out.
Rusty Jones would come into the game for the Broncos in the bottom of the 8th inning and pitch a scoreless inning keeping Laredo down by 3 heading into the 9th inning.
The Broncos were going to have to mount their comeback against Aces closer Wayne Hedden. With one out, Dwayne White singled and went to 2nd on a wild pitch. White would advanced to 3rd on a ground out by Luany Sanchez. Ben Tinius would follow with a walk, bringing the tying run to the plate. But, Anthony Bennett would fly out and the Broncos fell by a score of 4-1.
The Broncos scored 1 run on 10 hits and committed 1 error, while the Aces scored 4 runs on 8 hits and committed 1 error.
The Broncos fall to 21-23 on the season. The Broncos will be back in action on Saturday night when they play game 3 of a 3 game set against the Alexandria Aces at 7:05.
