San Angelo Colts News Release
SAN ANGELO, Texas - The first United League vs. Golden League All-Star Game figures to be plenty of entertainment for baseball fans, but the host San Angelo Colts and the rest of United League Baseball have many more events planned to make the All-Star break even more special.
On Monday, July 14, the festivities commence with a Meet and Greet at Blaine's Pub in downtown San Angelo. At 8 p.m., fans can mingle with the All-Stars from both leagues, and get great entertainment from Austin Powers impersonator "Airwave Dave."
The next day, the Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest comes to town, starting at 3 p.m. in the Foster Field parking lot. The event features a giant baseball museum, interactive video games and souvenir opportunities for young and old fans alike, as well as inflatable play areas for kids. In addition, fans can donate new or used baseball equipment to "Pitch In for Baseball" and in turn will receive one free ticket to the All-Star Game for each item donated.
After the Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest, fans can come into Foster Field for the Home Run Derby, featuring sluggers from both ULB and the GBL battling it out for power supremacy. Finally, at 7 p.m. comes the main event, the first annual All-Star game between the United League and Golden League stars.
Alexandria Aces manager Ricky VanAsselberg, who has led his team to both United League championships in the league's history, will serve as the ULB manager. San Angelo manager Doc Edwards, who is in his 51st year of professional baseball, will serve as the bench coach for the United League. Former Major Leaguer Mike Busch of the Calgary Vipers will be managing the Golden League Team.
The United League All-Star team is being selected via balloting from each of the six league managers and one media representative from each team. Voters cannot select players from their own teams, and the ballots are due in July 1, with the team announcement to come on Wednesday, July 2.
The Colts continue their showdown with first-place Amarillo at Foster Field on Friday, June 27. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. for a 6-pack cooler giveaway sponsored by Coke and Fox 10 KIDY. Advertising, ticket, and group information are available by calling the box office at (325) 942-6587. All Colts games are broadcast live on "Cool 100" - KCLL 100.1 FM and online at the Colts' official website, www.sanangelocolts.com, which is updated daily with the latest team news.
