Harlingen, TX - Even with ZOOperstars such as Clammy Sosa entertaining the crowd, the Harlingen WhiteWings (15-29) fell to the Edinburg Coyotes (18-26) 3-1 tonight at Harlingen Field.
The Coyotes got on the board in the second against Angel Cordero (1-3). Mayobanex Santana reached reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch. A ground out got him to third, and Logan Wood grounded out to score Santana, making it 1-0.
In the top of the fourth, Santana led off with a single, and moved around the bases on three wild pitches to make it 2-0.
Ryan Fox hit a two-out home run, his sixth of the season, against Aaron Guerra (3-1) in the bottom of the fourth to make it 2-1.
In the top of the seventh, Eric Gonzalez was hit by a pitch. He stole second and third. Gary Roche walked to knock out Cordero. Brandon Kling came in, and before throwing a pitch, caught Roche trying to steal second. Gonzalez broke for home and was thrown out while Roche made it to second. Robert Matlock reached on an error to allow Roche to score, making it 3-1.
Julio Castro pitched a scoreless ninth for his sixth save.
The WhiteWings and Coyotes close out the first half tomorrow night at 7:05 with game three of this three-game series. Right-hander Todd Lutz (2-1) will start on three days of rest against right-hander John Maschino (1-3).
