
Coyotes Shutout First Place Dillas

EDINBURG, Texas- Aaron Guerra turned in another solid performance after allowing only three hits while striking out eight batters to guide the Edinburg Coyotes (22-31) to 5-0 shutout over the first place Amarillo Dillas (32-23) Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Guerra (5-1) pitched seven innings and walked only one batter as he picked up his fifth win of the season. Dillas' pitcher Jesse Rodriguez (0-5) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing three runs on five hits.
Coyotes' third baseman MayoBanex Santana led the way for the Coyotes offensively as went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI. Coyotes jumped on the Dillas in the bottom of the second inning after newly acquired left fielder Argelis Nunez singled to left. He then stole second and advanced to third on a ground out from Daryl Jones.Santana walked and Alex Entrekin hit a two-run RBI double bringing in Nunez from third and Santana from first to take a 2-0 lead. Angelo Fermin then hit a RBI single to center field to give the Coyotes a 3-0 early lead. Coyotes capped the game off in the bottom of the eighth after Santana hit an RBI triple that brought in Jones from first. Amado German then hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Santana to give the Coyotes a 5-0 lead.
Coyotes will take on the Dillas in Game 2 tomorrow night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05. James Mondesir is expected play in his first start of the season for the Coyotes.
NOTE: Early today, Coyotes signed outfielders Nunez and Brandon McConnell. Nunez went 1-for-4 with 1 run and McConnell went 1-for-4 for the game.
