
Aces nearly shut out in loss

Alexandria, La. - July 9, 2008 - The Alexandria Aces suffered their worst defeat of the year as they lost 13-2 to the Harlingen WhiteWings Tuesday at Bringhurst Field. The âWings got off to a hot start from the get-go as they scored four runs in the first inning. After an RBI double by Brian Nichols gave Harlingen its first run, Ryan Fox smashed a three-run homer to center to give Harlingen a 4-0 lead. Leading 5-1, the WhiteWings scored four more in the fifth. The âWings scored two on a bases-loaded single by Amadeo Zazueta. Two batters later, with the bases loaded again, David Cardona forced in a run by walking. Nichols ended the scoring with an RBI groundout. Harlingen added four more in the sixth as well. Joel Gonzalez and Zazueta each hit run-scoring doubles and Fox hit an RBI single to give the WhiteWings their biggest lead of the game, 13-1. âWings starter Alex Gett earned his second win of the year working six innings and giving up one unearned run and striking out six. The lone bright spot for the Aces was Andre Marshall. The centerfielder was 2-2 with two walks. The Aces and WhiteWings will continue their three-game series on Thursday as the Aces' Ramon Portillo faces off against Harlingen's Juan Jimenez. Game time is 7:05.
